2. RECLAIM THE MEDIA

Negativland will be in Seattle September 10 -15 as part of “Reclaim The Media”, an amazing 5 day festival/event/protest running concurrently with the yearly meeting of the National Association Of Broadcasters in Seattle.

Negativland and their crazed DJ associate Jack Diekobisc (pronounced Dickobitch) will be on hand to do a daily micro-radio simul-blast show from 13 low power micro radio stations ( all at the same time!) that will be up and running throughout the event. Negativland will also do a film/lecture presentation on the evening of September 12th.

For more information and a schedule, go to http://www.reclaimthemedia.org/

“Reclaim the Media” is part of a growing media democracy movement concerned about the private takeover of public broadcasting resources, corporate consolidation and homogenization of media systems, and the deregulatory rollback of public interest accountability.

Featured participants currently includes Jen Angel (Clamor), David Barsamian (Alternative Radio), Lark Corbeil (Washington News Service), Davey D (Hard Knock Radio, daveyd.com), Deepa Ferndandes (Free Speech Radio News), Simin Farkhondeh (Labor at the Crossroads), Mark Hosler (Negativland), David Korten (Positive Futures Network), Art McGee (TAO Communications/Media Alliance), Tram Nguyen (ColorLines), Ron Sakolsky (Seizing the Airwaves) Karen Young (Chicago Media Watch) and Thenmozhi Soundararajan (Third World Majority), as well as colleagues from Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, the Independent Media Center, Media Alliance, Media Island, NLG Center for Democratic Communications, Prometheus Radio Project, La Voz del Campesino (KDNA), Vancouver Co-op Radio and many other broadcasting, print media and media watchdog organizations.

As part of“Reclaim the Media”, Negativland will be participating in “Blast the NAB!”, a direct-action virtual 'sit in' on the FM dial of Seattle to protest the exclusion of non-comercial comunity users from existing available open frequencies on the FM dial, and the failure of the FCC to act in the public's interest. From September 10-15, coming from multiple locations all over Seattle, tune up and down the FM dial to hear an array of neighborhood sized Micro-FM stations on 13 Interference-free "2nd Adjacency" open frequencies: 87.9, 89.1, 93.7, 94.5, 95.3, 96.9, 97.7, 99.5, 101.1, 101.9, 102.1, 104.1, and 107.3.
