1. NEGATIVLAND PRANKS CLEAR CHANNEL
AND "FORCES" RADIO FORMAT CHANGE

Not as serious or as big of a deal as this article makes it sound, but Jack is having fun. Go here to read the details -  http://www.ink19.com/news/2003/35/345.html

Pass along to anyone you think might be amused.

2. NEW CD RELEASE FROM SEELAND

THE EVOLUTION CONTROL COMMITTEE
"Plagiarhythm Nation"
Seeland 527 $13.50 - US price includes postage

Columbus, Ohio's legendary ECC predated the entire "mash-ups" phenomenon with an unholy marriage of Public Enemy and Herb Alpert back in 1996 ("The Whipped Cream Mixes" 7"). Now they're back with a brilliant 29-track plunderphonic cookbook of instant classics, including "Rocked By Rape" (which earned ECC a cease-and-desist from CBS News, later dismissed), an inexplicably hilarious and rousing anthem ("I Want a Cookie") and even pieces dedicated to each primary meal of the day. Originally issued in a different, nascent form (known as "V.1" and handed out by the ECC as a CD-R), Plagiarhythm Nation has been totally remastered, re-tooled, re-configured and expanded upon for Seeland release. A playful and brilliantly executed album that significantly ups the ante for the cut-up genre.

3. ANOTHER NEW CD RELEASE FROM SEELAND

BOB OSTERTAG
"DJ of the Month - Solo Volume Two"
Seeland 526/MVORL-2 $13.50 - US price includes postage

Long-awaited follow-up to Mr. Ostertag's first solo CD release (Like a Melody, No Bitterness, also on Seeland). Once again, this notorious digital-hatchet-man of San Francisco has unleashed a mind-melting, CD-player-laser-shorting-out masterpiece of manipulation. DJ of the Month is a 40:48 non-stop maelstrom of severely manipulated sound sources, radically altered beyond all recognition in a truly sonic tornado. Bob's liner notes recommend that the listener "skip it altogether" if he/she does not have an uninterrupted 40:48 listening environment available, and we couldn't agree more. This is meditation on burning coals, thoughtful reflection as windowpanes fall on you from collapsing buildings above. And the front cover is signed by John Ashcroft.

4. AND YET ANOTHER NEW CD RELEASE FROM SEELAND

XEROPHONICS
"Copying Machine Music"
Seeland 524 CD $13.50 - US price includes postage

Now here's music which is unarguably COPIED - deftly organized ditties which have been collated, toned, and jammed by one Dr. Stefan Helmreich, who masterminded this new "genre". That's right - 13 great songs assembled entirely from the sounds of office copying machines, with track titles such as "Toshiba 2060" and "Xerox 5425 (Bookmark 35)". Oddly soothing music to sweep the cubicle by!

5. NEW 7" SPLIT SINGLE ON SEELAND/ELECTRO MOTIVE

MONO PAUSE / AAVIKKO
"El Cebo / Of Stomping Men" split 7"
Seeland 525 / Electro Motive Records CPA-020
$4.50 US price includes postage

The first collaborative issue by Seeland with the Electro Motive Records label is a groovy little vinyl disc, "El Cebo" b/w "Of Stomping Men", featuring the SF East Bay's "situationist" freak band Mono Pause (which includes Peter from Negativland) covering Finland's super-eccentric 80's-keyboard-driven monster band Aavikko, and vice-versa. Each band has utterly mutated the work of the other, and the result is a beautiful, off-kilter mix of non-Western instrumentation, cheap keyboards, sultry horns and salty textures across two very different sides.
