Wiley Post and Will Rogers go down, Amelia Earhart goes down, World War II arrives souping up everything, the jet engine emerges, Howard Hughes takes the Spruce Goose up a few feet, and we end this part in the early ’50s by bumping up against the sound barrier and looking into space.

With material from many sources, this is all about human dreams of traveling on air and the inventions they evoked, beginning with bicycle wheels and internal combustion engines at the beginning of the 20th Century and moving into the speed racers and flying fighter technology of the 1930s before we run out of time. The Wright Bros. and Langley, the military involvement at the earliest stages of development, Wiley Post, Howard Hughes, The Spitfire, and World War II looms just over the horizon.
