How Radio Was Done Part 74

April 24, 2008
Solo

1883 radio continues with a stations car honk-off, then faulty transmissions from a press conference at the Beirut airport with hostages from a plane hijack, Helen Caldecot on Larry Kings radio show expounding on nuclear war to the strains of Koyaanisqatsi, news of the Granada invasion, an extensive look at the death of Karen Carpenter, a Church Of The Subgenius flexi-disc released in 83, and music and DJs from the year.

We begin 1983 radio with Negativlands A Big 10-8 Place released that year, then covering a lot of early OTE focused on the emergence of the very persistent Suicide Man calls of the era. KGO strikes back because we were using tapes from their broadcasts on ours, KPFAs Morning Concert and a sampling composer, Jello Biafra interviewed, KYAs final day DJs play their own jingles, computer ads, and lots of Receptacle input on our phones.
