Universe – Part 91

Universe Pt. 91

June 26, 2015

We begin with a suitably surreal tribute to Phil Austin of The Firesign Theatre who died a few days ago. This consists of Phil reading from his audiobook, “Tales of the Old Detective and Other Big Fat Lies,” mixed with various other Firesign records and radio shows that refer to space. He can’t be missed because he’s not gone. Then we move on through a wonderful bit of Richard Dawkins on design, creativity, and the Universe, along with a few other astronomers and astrophysicists discussing the creation of artificial planets for human colonization, The Solar System, star motion, etc.

Universe – Part 89

Universe Pt. 89 What About the 30s?

June 12, 2015

Jumping back in radio space time, we intermix three science fiction serials from the 1930s, including Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. Flash Gordon was the very first science fiction program to appear on radio in 1935. These old radio sci-fi antiques are full of non-stop action and silliness, and it’s all accompanied by swinging band music from the 30s.
