Consolidated Media Incorporated

December 18, 2003

Excerpts from the San Francisco FCC public hearing on media ownership rules (originally presented live on KPFA) are mixed with various commentaries to encapsulate some of the many problems of media conglomeration. Corporate media CEOs and former CEOs, from Ted Turner to Sumner Redstone, discuss their media gathering careers, and the public and media workers raise issues of information control and the dangers of a narrowly informed democracy. Now that art and information are both businesses first and foremost, just like any other form of business, the possibilities of monopolizing the market are the real and implied goal for capitalistic success. Homogenizing our diverse culture into a lucrative national uniformity seems to bother no one in charge except Mr. Turner, whos no longer in charge.
