HOW RUDE!

Dick,

I have just recently read your "ideals" on the subject matter of the song I AM WOMAN by the extraordianry Helen Reddy. I find it very intriging that a song that gave so many women the courage and power to finally "stand up and be counted" if you will is made mockery of by none other than a pastor. I especially have a problem with the snide remark you made at the end of your "review" , I quote you," What happened Helen, I thought you were invincible". Well Dick let me enlighten you, Ms. Reddy's star did not fade in 1975 with "Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady", but broadened her career further.

Capitol records signed her on for 6!! more recordings (oh just thought you should know, many of these songs feautured on her records also made it on to the charts, so her star did not fade yet!!). After the success of her last two albums REDDY and WE'LL SING IN THE SUNSHINE she left Capitol and signed with MCA records relesing 3 records under that label (just thought I should list them for you TAKE WHAT YOU FIND, PLAY ME OUT and IMAGINATION) note* Imagination charted for three weeks on the dance charts in 1983. The story is just beginning Dick. In 1985, MCA asked Helen if she would be interested in helping them start a smaller branch record company. She accepted and ran the MCA/Carlton label for 6 years!! In 1991 MCA branched Carlton as an oversea's distributor for MCA. Interested in the European market, MCA/Carlton asked Helen if she would return to the recording world.

So I just think you need to understand ......she is invincible!!!!! Also after I get through with this e-mail I will be e-mailing every Helen Reddy Fan Club member I know to respond with the same anger I have to you and your horrible "review"!!!

Yes, it is sad indeed to see a former "star" floundering around the recording industry looking for work. I admit I don't know the specifics as well as you claim to, but I have no reason to disbelieve you. I hope (I really do!) for Helen's sake, that she invested her money well, or at least had a luxury home or two she could sell to make ends meet. Luckily for her, a person who has as many hits as she did can always perform, if only for "nostalgia purposes", at a small venue or major hotel.

I'm also sure that Helen appreciates your loyalty. The fact that you didn't simply "move on to the next thing" as most people did 25+ years ago really says something about you.
