Date sent: Tue, 08 Jun 1999 11:12:51 -0400 Are you kidding or what???? This bio belongs to BOB Denver. NOT John Denver. I'm sure you don't want to mislead anyone... please remove your page. John Denver did have a very rich film career. I suggest you check it out. His credits include, "Oh, God" with George Burns, "Foxfire" with Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, etc. Jennifer
Date sent: Wed, 09 Jun 1999 12:20:52 PDT Dear Miss Irwin, Thank you for your interest in my tribute to John Denver, as featured in Pastor Dick's Jukebox. I have received numerous complaints about this particular review from many John Denver fans as yourself . I understand that my words may have seemed harsh at times, but I promise you that I really did enjoy Mr. Denver's work. Though his "Gilligan" series has been the brunt of many jokes over the years, I am not ashamed to admit that I truly enjoy the show, and recognize his comic genius. By the same token, I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and as difficult as it is for us to unconditionally accept His truths, the fact is that all have sinned and have fallen short of His glory. His Word is the ultimate instruction manual for mankind, and we must not compromise what God commands us to do. It is a known fact that John Denver's behavior was not in accordance with God's laws, which saddens me, as I'm sure that on the surface, Mr. Denver was a "good" man. My commentary was not intended as a personal attack, but to stress the true meaning of God's Word and the importance of living a life that glorifies the one and only true Savior. I would ask you to examine your own life, and your priorities in particular. Consider turning your heart and mind away from these trivial matters of which television star or singer did what, and come to find real "peace that passeth understanding" by seeking the Lord and asking for His mercy. This will bring you greater joy than any man-made hit single or television event. Incidentally, I can't be fooled! I double-checked with my long-time associate Dayle Embree, who confirmed that my information on John Denver was entirely accurate. As a veteran gospel radio programmer, he knows a great deal about show business. Better luck next time!
Only because He died,
From: "Jennifer L. Irvin" <jenirvin@hotmail.com> Pastor Dick, It is not my intention to "fool" anyone. Bob Denver and John Denver are two very separate people. It is you who are not presenting the Truth when you give false biographies. As a Christian, I'm sure you do not want to intentionally mislead anyone. I suggest you check out this link http://www.nicom.com/~aeneas/denver.html or this one http://bobdenver.com/ By the way, Bob Denver (star of television's "Gilligan's Island" and "Dobey Gillis") is very much alive and well and would not care, I think, to have his life's accomplishments attributed to another. John Denver's autobiography, "Take Me Home" is currently out of stock, but usually available through Amazon.com. For a quick bio on the singer, I suggest you go to the following: http://www.chron.com[...]denverbio.html I'm afraid your "long-time associate", Mr. Embree has unintentionally mislead you. However, that is not an excuse for you to ignore the honest guidance of many interested John Denver fans who have tried to point out the error. What if Christ's followers had not listened to His message, but had lived in the darkness because it did not fit with what they had already decided was "The Truth"? I suggest you take just a few moments to do some of that "extensive research" you put into your John Denver "bio" and check out your "facts". I'm looking forward to hearing from you after you've done so.
Love in Christ,
Date sent: Wed, 09 Jun 1999 16:31:17 PDT Dear Mrs. Irving, Thank you again for your concern. I forwarded your message to Mr. Embree, and he became quite angry, threatening to call the authorities to report you for harassment. Fortunately, I was able to remind him that there is only ONE authority and that His penalties far exceed anything that man has to offer. Luckily for you, my message of reassurance seems to have calmed him down for the moment. Unfortunately, I can only set a small amount of time aside to deal with the massive amount of hate mail that I receive each week. It seems as though mankind grows increasingly intolerant of the truth with every passing day. I regret that I cannot look at your websites, as it is not my responsibility to dwell on these things. How will furthering my knowledge on matters as unimportant as "celebrity gossip" assist me in leading souls to the Lord, particularly when the celebrity has passed on and can no longer inflict his or her perverted values on the rest of us? I can answer that question for you: It can't! Did I tell you that Dayle Embree, aside from his dedication to the Christian broadcast industry, worked in the secular entertainment business before his conversion, working alongside such noted personalities as Ed Reimers, Chick Hearn, and Ed Herlihee? Dayle has always been and will continue to be my link to the "inside showbiz" scene. He not only keeps me in the know on the basics as reported in my John Denver tribute, but can go on for days telling forbidden stories about these figures that would make the average person sick if they were even printable! I would encourage you to continue to live for the Lord and to resist the temptation to be consumed by television, radio, movies, and all that goes with them. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will go strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.
Only because He died,
From: "Jennifer L. Irvin" <jenirvin@hotmail.com> Pastor Dick, I assure you that my only intention is to help. If you receive as much mail as it sounds that you do as a result of having false information on your site, then you should be interested in correcting the information.
Wishing you luck,
From: "Jennifer L. Irvin" <jenirvin@hotmail.com> Pastor Dick, You made it clear that you intended to do nothing in regards to the false information on your site and even indirectly threatened me with "harassment". However, as a fan of both Bob Denver and the late John Denver, I cannot be content knowing that this information is being misused. I have e-mailed Mr. Bob Denver in regards to your use of his accomplishments without giving him the recognition. If you truly believe that one should spend less time focusing on the entertainment industry and more time on his or her relationship with God, then why your website in the first place, and why rely on wrong information? It is my hope that you will find the time to remove the "Flyaway" page from your jukebox in light of the fact that intentional misuse of information is against the law and, more importantly, not very Christian.
Thanking you in advance,
