"Pastor Dick: Muriel's Purse Fund" is the second volume in a collection of material that was originally broadcast on "Over The Edge", Negativland's weekly radio show on KPFA 94.1 FM in Berkeley, CA. This release involves Pastor Dick and his talk radio show that incorporates such religious activities as Bible quizzes, prayer, and on-air confessionals. Meanwhile in the background, members of Negativland use turntables, tapes loops, live music and other various effects to complement the talk show. What results is a bizarre juxtaposition of religious satire with crazy and often inappropriate noises, music, and vocal effects. Although sometimes this manipulation is more inspired than at other moments, the overall effect is extremely unique and quite enjoyable pt listen to for those who feel they can stomach such a recording. The enjoyability of this release stems from several sources. First of all, the talk shows, regardless of the sound effects, are pretty funny within themselves, and occasionally informative. Secondly, there is a random element within these talk shows supplied by live outside callers. Last, but not least, the sound effects and musical interludes are extremely well timed through out.
