THE DAVE EMORY TOUR DIARY,
thus entitled: DOOMSDAY, CAR BOMB, CONTINUING

DAY 6:

700 people see Negativland at First Avenue, a club known for being where a local musician named Prince likes to do impromptu concerts (a rumor has him hanging around the merchandise table for most of the concert; later proven false). Co-produced with the Walker Art Center, the show is part of a series entitled "Let's Entertain". "Fine art" associations again prove fruitful.

Richard gets overly excited and falls backwards off the stage riser at the close of "Nesbitt's Lime Soda Song", mangling his foot. No one in the band notices and the audience assumes it's all part of the show. Richard leaves a trail of blood all the way to the dressing room.

Just past intermission, one of Don's cart machines suddenly loses its output level. Silence from center stage; Negativland's "lead singer" has effectively lost his voice. The show grinds entirely to a halt in the middle of "Watching TV" as Peter and Mark first attempt to blindly improvise to cover up the holes, then stop completely with an on-mic apology to the assembled faithful. Ever-resourceful Tom suddenly appears on stage with a soldering iron, a roll of duct tape, and a handful of DependTM undergarments. After five or so painful minutes a quick fix is obtained and the show resumes. President Donny is speaking again.
