All Bob Dylan

Sept. 30, 2010

A solid 5 hours of Dylan emphasizing a lot of his unreleased music from bootleg recordings with interview and movie clips included. Lots of songs youve never heard before plus new and unusual versions of ones you have. His whole career is covered from early to late and, overall, much of his work is presented whole here with respect.

5 Hours.

Unfortunately, this is another episode that won’t download correctly. Seems the Metadata is set wrong and after receiving an error, the server then begins to stream the data, which causing Firefox to lockup. 🙁

Anyone else with a similar experience?

  2. the janitor says:

yep. says “Error in table – record in tblitems not found – free.php ref 2”, whatever that broed-out shit means. dammit. I NEEDS MY EDGE!

  3. Nop says:

Yeah, I’m also getting that now. That’s a different problem then earlier. It’s unfortunate that the download can’t be a direct link. It would eliminate a lot of problems and save a lot of bandwidth for all involved.

  4. the janitor says:

indeed. us out of KPFA’s jurisdiction have been battling this website for some time now, but we should not give up hope. someday it may all work right again.
luckily for me, I took Don Joyce’s advice many years ago (about 8 or so) and started my own show, called The Brozone. So, if you’re jonesin’ for a three hour block of craziness to make up for not being able to listen to this show, maybe check out these:

[links edited out. Sorry, Brozone, we’re trying to locate a spider or a leak, and direct links are not wise at this moment. Readers, do a search for “Brozone,” you will find it easily enough.]

Maybe we can hear it on the KPFA website when they post it in the archives. I’m kind of surprised it’s not there already, it’s usually posted there before it shows up here at Negativland.

I wish I’d been up that night; I could have started recording it live from the radio, and listened to it later. =(

  6. Nop says:

Yep, it’s not available through KPFA or here. I’m sorry to say it, but if the past is any indication it won’t show up because no one knows how and/or cares enough to fix the problem. I already suggested an easy solution a couple of days ago.

However, it is available through Denon Radio. I’m streaming it now, but it’s the low, low quality mono version.

  7. webmaster says:

Hey, invalid, we’re working on it. Don’t be such a hater. We’ve got more problems on this site right now than you can know. We care enough to fix it, but we’re not knowledgeable enough to do it sometimes.

Here’s that direct link you wanted:

    Enjoy the show!

Honestly, I don’t pretend to know all of the issues that are going on with the site, nor do I know a lot about HTML or PHP. So please don’t confuse hate with frustration. What I do know is that there is at least three other shows…

    February 12, 2010
    February 19, 2010
    August 6, 2010

…that are impossible to download and when time permits could also use a direct link.

What’s frustrating is that every download, with the exception of the direct link you kindly provided, offers huge challenges. These challenges range from the file getting cut off very early, to Apple Photo Shop XML or the download button’s HTML getting appended to the end of the file. It would appear that a download that has the download button’s HTML appended is the only version that is complete. However, getting the download button version wastes a tremendous amount of bandwidth.

What’s also frustrating is that when a new show gets posted, apparently the functionality isn’t tested before the page goes live. Upon failure, an easy, temporary, solution to fix all of these problems would be to include the direct link.

I don’t know if this is going to work here in blog form, but using the link you provided earlier, the easiest way would be to use a download button similar to this one…

…which would have all of the same functionality, but would download the entire file and it would do so on the first attempt without wasting bandwidth.

Finally, I appreciate all that is being done here and I understand that the site has issues. I get that. I don’t want to sound like I’m preaching to the choir. I’m only saying, here’s one way to fix this frustrating issue.

    Thanks for the link.

Crap. The example download button didn’t get parsed correctly and is not only missing from the text, but from the source. There’s no edit button, so I can’t fix it.

Anyway, think HTML 101 where you combine a HTML link with an image. The link is the one you provided and the image is the download button above.

  10. Webmaster says:

    Thanks, Nop!

Yeah, we know the HTML 101 code! Haw haw!

The problem seems to be in our shopping cart system, which is kind of fucked right now. It’s also the means by which the shows are uploaded and stored, etc. etc. etc. So it’s a big ole sticky can of worms. We have to get all the sows out of this mess, but it has not been easy. And we need some solution – you try leaving any MP3s on any site. The bots and worms will crawl all over you until you’re at a standstill!

BTW, Feb 12 and 19th do not appear to be on the server. For a while we had no webmaster at all and things got REALLY broken. It’s likely that our KPFA source has ’em somewhere, but an earlier hacking attempt and some disorganization have made things a bit tough.

But I did find August 6th, and I put it here:

You’re wrong about us not testing the links, also. We do. But our script is for crap and there’s something severely wrong with it. Unfortunately the architects, who could possibly solve the problem, have moved on…

We’re busy as hell trying to locate the issues, solve the leaks, and fill in the holes. So stay with us! I, personally, am happy to step in here and fix these links. The webmaster email is going through just fine and I should see the problems as they arise.

When patience is the only option then I’m patient whether I like it or not. Thanks a bunch for the direct links, it really is great to be able to listen to the shows in greater than 24kbps quality and stereo, too.

I’m still itchin to buy some of the older shows, when you all can make it possible.

  12. webmaster says:

We’re working on it! Believe me, we’d like to make all that available as soon as possible!

  13. Morgan says:

Thanks for posting the direct link to Beatnix I, Webmaster. =)

  14. Nop says:

    Thank you for the link.
