OWN A BIT OF NEGATIVLAND HISTORY

(AND HELP FUND THE RE-ISSUE
OF OUR VERY FIRST ALBUM).

To help fund the 2024 re-issue of our 1980 debut album, Negativland is selling our dearly loved Roland System 100 Model 101 semi-modular analog synthesizer that we got brand new back in 1978.

This was our main synthesizer back then, used extensively on our first and second albums, and on a track on Dispepsi. It was also used for our earliest Bay Area live shows and Over The Edge radio shows, including the first three stage shows we ever performed in San Francisco in 1980. Since then it has sat in our studio, and, other than some scuffs and scratches on the back, is in excellent condition and still sounds great.

We recently took it to Yellow Bench Repairs in Seattle to have it professionally cleaned, serviced, and tuned, and to make sure it was up to spec. Everything works great: no scratchy pots or sliders or keys retriggering, has CV inputs for connecting with external sequencers and keyboards, and it has a very smooth and a warm sound.

That first electronic sound you hear on the opening track of our first album? That's this synth, played through an EHX Bad Stone phase shifter. Besides playing it more conventionally, the many insert patch points of this synth were used by Negativland to process tape loops, live radio stations, guitars, vocals and drum machines to make many of the strange sounds heard throughout our 1980 self-titled first album and our second album Points. It’s also the synth used on "Why Is This Commercial?" on our 1998 Dispepsi album.

Made between 1975 and 1979, the Roland System 100 Model 101 is an all analog monophonic synthesizer in a solid metal housing with wood side panels, and is similar in sound to the plastic SH series later released by Roland, but without any of the very cool semi-modular patch points. The Model 101 was the stand alone foundation of the larger System 100, which consisted of the 101 synthesizer, a sequencer, a mixer, speakers, and a synthesizer expander module.

The synthesizer we are selling features a 37 note keyboard, VCO, LFO, VCA, VCF with high and low pass, ADSR, CV gate, portamento/glide, external inputs, a white/pink noise generator, a handy A-440Hz tuning oscillator, and with patch points throughout.

Used by artists like Boards Of Canada, Aphex Twin, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Orbital, Vince Clarke, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17, Luke Vibert, Human League, Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Tears For Fears, Hans Zimmer, Meat Beat Manifesto, and Negativland.

The price? Elsewhere on the interwebs this thing seems to sell for between $1700 and $3700. Since this is a fundraiser, and a very special part of our group's history, we'd love to see it sell for at least $3500, plus shipping (unless you pick it up in Seattle.) But whatever it goes for, know that you'll be helping fund the limited edition re-issue of our very first album, complete with one-of-kind handmade covers that will be created using the same kinds of found images and wallpaper that we used back in the 80's.

Once we get our first offer, we'll give it two weeks from then to see if any other offers come in. Highest offer gets it!

SOLD! For $4500 to Chris in Sweden! THANK YOU!!!!
